IN 500 WORDS OR LESS PLEASE DISCUSS WHICH RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS OFFICE YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT AND WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO TO MEET THAT RESPONSIBILITY?
The most important function of the council is to ensure the health, welfare and safety of the citizens we serve. This can be accomplished by ensuring a properly trained and equipped police, fire, and ems service. Ensuring adequate service to senior citizens by supplying those services needed by the home bound and/or disabled senior citizens who have limited access to needed services. Ensuring adequate activities and functions for our youth through the recreation department and partnerships with religious and non-profits and police explorer type programs. Ensure a safe and dependable water supply and delivery system (pipes) by repairing leaks and upgrading purification systems. Implement projects that will enhance tourism and highlight the Historic District and the historic attractions along Sala Avenue to bolster tax and tourism revenue to the city. Re-institute Enterprise Zones within the city to give tax breaks to new businesses in order to attract new business and develop a viable "Downtown" area and industrial corridor which would also increase tax revenues to the city. Build Tourism around the John Alario Center and Bayou Segnette State Park which are both located just outside the city limits but have an economic impact on Westwego.
